Canal-view hotel in 3 restored canal houses

Location

Amsterdam Wiechmann Hotel occupies three restored canal houses at the junction of the Prinsengracht and Looiersgracht canals. The Anne Frank House is a 10-minute walk away, and Leideseplein is also a 10-minute stroll from the hotel. Dam Square, with Madame Tussauds, is less than a 15-minute walk from the property.

Rooms

Each room contains antique furniture and original features such as leaded windows; some rooms include French doors or a small balcony. Canal-view rooms allow guests to watch boats and pedestrians from a Juliet balcony or seating area. The hotel provides fans in the rooms, as no air conditioning is available.

Dining & Lounge

A continental-style breakfast is served in a breakfast room with large windows overlooking the street and canal; the buffet includes ham, eggs, cheeses, breads, cereals, fruit, yogurts, and cakes. A separate lounge offers free hot drinks (coffee, tea) throughout the day, along with biscuits or small sweets. The lounge itself is decorated with unusual objects and wooden beams.

Amenities & Services

The hotel offers a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and a shared lounge/TV area for guests. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and parking can be arranged (invoice provided). Staff assist with carrying heavy luggage up the steep traditional Dutch stairs, and the front entrance is locked to strangers for added security.

Safety & Security

Security measures include 24-hour security, CCTV in common areas and outside the property, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and a safety deposit box in the rooms. Key access restricts entry to the building, and a security alarm is installed. The property also has heating and non-smoking rooms throughout.

Highlights

Location: 10-minute walk from Anne Frank House and Leideseplein

Rooms: Some rooms with canal views, French doors or small balconies

Dining: Continental breakfast with ham, eggs, cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurts, cakes

Amenities: Free hot drinks in the lounge all day, 24-hour front desk

“This property stands out for its prime location on the Prince Canal, a mere ten minutes from the Anne Frank House. The hotel exudes a quirky charm, with decor that complements its Amsterdam setting, and the staff clearly prioritize guest satisfaction. I especially appreciate its proximity to the bus station with direct airport access: a true find for those seeking convenience and character.”

missing elevator unimpressive breakfast
The lack of an elevator was really inconvenient. i hadn't been told about it beforehand, so getting to the third floor with luggage was tough. also, the breakfast was a bit of a letdown. The selection wasn't great and it didn't quite live up to expectations.

The location was definitely convenient, I suppose. Anne Frank's house WAS nearby.
I found the STAIRS ridiculous. Lugging my suitcase up those narrow, winding steps reminded me of some kind of medieval torture. Almost fell a couple of times.

The stairwell proved quite challenging. Steps were narrow and steep. Luggage transport was difficult, especially given the absence of a lift. the room lacked proper sound insulation, resulting in considerable noise disturbance throughout the night. This made restful sleep difficult.
