Review summary

Based on recent reviews

Edinburgh House Hotel is often chosen for its convenient location, with a bus stop practically across the road offering quick access to the city centre, and the Royal Mile roughly a 20-minute walk away. Guests appreciate the provision of kettles with tea and coffee in the rooms. While some guests have found certain rooms basic or noted the building could benefit from renovation, the hotel's proximity to shops and restaurants within a 5-minute walk, combined with spacious rooms available in some instances, makes it a popular choice.

friendly staff convenient location dated decor poor repair

the staff was very friendly the location proved convenient as it was near a bus stop with regular service to the city centre. the room felt nice and clean it added positively to my short stay of one night.

the decor looked quite dated throughout the reception hall and the bedroom areas the carpets looked visibly old. the bed head showed signs of poor repair plus a bedside light did not function.

Simple and Clean Stay

comfortable bed airport access shower facility

The location worked well for me because it provided access to the city. The bed was very comfortable. The bus and tram lines offered convenient access to the airport. A sink, shower and toilet were all available in the room.

The decor was a bit rough around the edges.

Facilities

8/10

The hotel provided a kettle with tea and coffee for free in the room, convenient. A working TV and blow dryer were available, meeting basic needs for entertainment and grooming .

Dining

8/10

I did not utilize any dining facilities at the hotel. There was easy access to the surrounding city. This provided many options for meals.

Service

9/10

Staff members were generally okay, and the check-in and check-out processes proceeded easily. Someone made the bed while I was out. They did not disturb my belongings.

Location

9/10

The house sits in a good location, near both the center and tram and bus stops, which I used. Despite being so close, it remained quiet enough. The city nightlife did not disturb me.

An okay stay, but certain aspects disappointed

small window loud noises

The location was fine, putting me within walking distance of several restaurants.

The basement room I received felt a bit like a prison. There was barely any natural light because of the small window, and I constantly heard loud noises from above. This was NOT what I saw in the photos I booked (the basement, really!).

A Budget Stay With a Few Drawbacks

damp smell slamming doors

I found a few things less than stellar , I must say. The room smelled a bit damp. Plus , the noise from other guests was noticeable as doors slammed shut at all hours. I reckon the walls could do with better soundproofing , or perhaps some consideration for quieter doors.
