“The Victorian charm of this hotel, one of the city's oldest, makes it a compelling base for exploring Edinburgh. I appreciate its superior double rooms, especially those offering views of Edinburgh Castle, blending historical significance with modern comfort, but some rooms may present issues with external noise. Overall, it balances its traditional décor with a focus on sustainable practices, which I find commendable.”

convenient location, basic amenities

sitting areahelpful staffunpleasant smell
the hotel had a great location near transport. the staff were helpful with luggage assistance to the first level, which i appreciated. the common sitting area included comfortable lounges, perfect for viewing the christmas markets. the restaurant provided a nice selection of food.
the bathroom emitted an unpleasant smell whenever the light was switched on. the extractor fan seemed to be the source of this issue. i think this could be addressed with better ventilation or maintenance.

the hotel is across from the main train station and a short walk to the royal mile. numerous pubs and restaurants surround it. this makes it easy to access many local attractions, including the castle.

the central location was really great. it made getting to waverley station and the bus stops so easy. the lounge had great views of princes street and the park, which i loved. air conditioning in my room was a lifesaver . the staff were very friendly to me.
I noticed very squeaky floorboards. The windows were a bit drafty. this made the room less warm.
