“The Victorian charm of this hotel, one of the city's oldest, makes it a compelling base for exploring Edinburgh. I appreciate its superior double rooms, especially those offering views of Edinburgh Castle, blending historical significance with modern comfort, but some rooms may present issues with external noise. Overall, it balances its traditional décor with a focus on sustainable practices, which I find commendable.”

Central Location with Helpful Service

central location easy access delicious breakfast comfortable bed
The location provides easy access. The train station is just across the street. The view from the room included the Scott Monument and the Castle. The included shortbread with tea and coffee was a nice touch. The staff was friendly and helpful . The breakfast buffet offered good variety. I appreciated the politeness of the trainee receptionist during check-in. The bed was large and comfortable.
The room did not have a phone to contact reception. I had to go downstairs to make requests.

convenient location, basic amenities

sitting area helpful staff
the hotel had a great location near transport. the staff were helpful with luggage assistance to the first level, which i appreciated. the common sitting area included comfortable lounges, perfect for viewing the christmas markets. the restaurant provided a nice selection of food.
the bathroom emitted an unpleasant smell whenever the light was switched on. the extractor fan seemed to be the source of this issue. i think this could be addressed with better ventilation or maintenance.

the hotel is across from the main train station and a short walk to the royal mile. numerous pubs and restaurants surround it. this makes it easy to access many local attractions, including the castle.
