Sydney Harbour Hotel - A heritage hotel with rooftop pool and harbor views in The Rocks district

Located in the historic Rocks district, Sydney Harbour Hotel occupies a 4-star heritage property steps from Circular Quay. This Sydney hotel features a rooftop pool offering panoramic views of the Opera House and Harbor Bridge. Guest rooms include queen or king beds with customizable pillows, while upgraded rooms provide harbor vistas. The Playfair Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner Thursday through Saturday, while the Lobby Bar offers Australian craft beers and regional wines. A 5-minute walk connects guests to the Overseas Passenger Terminal and Circular Quay's transportation hub. Sydney Harbour Hotel sits surrounded by cobblestone streets lined with historic pubs, art galleries, and weekend markets featuring local artisans.

Pros

Direct access to The Rocks Markets featuring local producers and creators

Rooftop pool deck provides sweeping views of iconic landmarks

The Lobby Bar serves regional wines and craft beers with $8 happy hour specials

Walking distance to Museum of Contemporary Art and Opera House tours

Cons

Restaurant dinner service limited to Thursday through Saturday

8 miles distance from Sydney Airport requires $60-70 taxi fare

“This hotel's heritage-listed building is in the historic Rocks area. Its key advantage is the rooftop pool with views toward the Opera House, though views can be obstructed by passing cruise ships. I found the location ideal for exploring Circular Quay and the markets, but some rooms show wear and noise can be an issue.”

The location is definitely a strong point. It's central to the harbour and other attractions. The breakfast area is quite good, and I found the food to be tasty. The pool on the top floor is also a nice feature.
The staff seemed a bit impersonal. I had an issue with the toilet that wasn't properly addressed by housekeeping. They just used a towel to clean (I found that gross). There was no call to sanitise the floor.

i found the location to be fantastic. it was close to shops, markets, and ferries. i also appreciated the sitting area in the foyer. it was convenient to meet up with other guests. the rooftop had nice views! the pool was definitely a plus.
i noticed the bathroom needed a deep clean. the floor and silicone, in particular, could use some attention. it wasn't quite the standard i expect. but overall everything else was perfect!
