The Revolution Hotel - A mid-century modern boutique hotel with bespoke art, shared workspace, and Cal-Mex dining in Boston's South End

Housed in a converted 1884 YWCA building, this 177-room Boston hotel features a striking cubist exterior and bold artistic elements including a 65-foot pop-art mural and three-story Innovation Tower. The Revolution Hotel offers diverse accommodations ranging from 115-square-foot Bath Down-The-Hall rooms to 528-square-foot loft suites with kitchenettes. On-site dining includes Kohi Coffee Co., a Provincetown-originated walk-up coffee shop, and Cósmica restaurant serving Cal-Mex cuisine and weekend brunch. The property provides a 24-hour fitness center with Peloton bikes, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a co-working space open to guests and locals. Located at Berkeley and Appleton Streets in the South End's Victorian brownstone district, The Revolution stands 0.5 miles from Trinity Church and one kilometer from the Freedom Trail.

Pros

Innovative art installations including a three-story sculpture celebrating Boston inventions

Pet-friendly accommodations with beds and bowls available ($25 fee)

Public Bikes available for complimentary guest use

Multiple bathroom options on each floor with occupancy indicators

Cons

Some rooms require using shared bathrooms down the hall

Limited on-site parking requires using nearby garages ($35-38 daily)

“The Revolution Hotel embraces its South End location with uniquely themed decor and a celebration of Boston innovation. I think its blend of private and shared bath options smartly addresses different budgets, while the on-site dining and co-working spaces add considerable convenience. For travelers who prioritize an affordable, design-forward experience near the city's historical attractions, this hotel presents a compelling option.”

shared bathroom issues and noise problems

shared bathroomhigh noise
i was pretty frustrated with a few things. the shared bathroom setup wasn't great, even though i knew about it beforehand. it just felt inconvenient, especially in the morning. plus, the noise levels were way too high. i could hear everything happening in the hallway and other rooms. it was hard to get a good night's sleep, pretty essential when you're traveling.
