Queen Charlotte Guesthouse - 18th-century lodgings in Edinburgh's New Town with 9.5 location score

Location

Queen Charlotte Guesthouse sits 500 metres from Edinburgh city centre, on a quiet street in the upscale New Town district. Edinburgh Castle is 600 metres away, Camera Obscura and World of Illusions is 1 km, and the Royal Mile is 800 metres from the property. Edinburgh Waverley station is 1.2 km distant, and Edinburgh Airport is 9 km away, reachable by bus or tram.

Rooms & Accommodations

Each unit has a private bathroom with a bathtub and hair dryer, plus a coffee machine for in-room preparation. Select rooms include a fully equipped kitchenette with a fridge and kitchenware. All rooms contain a wardrobe, a TV, and heating; the property is entirely non-smoking.

Family-Friendly Features

Queen Charlotte Guesthouse offers cots for families with infants and provides Deluxe Family Rooms and Superior Family Rooms that can accommodate groups of up to five guests. The property allows early check-in and luggage storage before check-in and after check-out. A porter service is available to assist with luggage up steep stairs (please request in advance).

Security & Guest Services

The guesthouse has 24-hour security, CCTV in common areas and outside the building, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and a security alarm. Check-in is express and contactless via a door code sent by the remote team; communication is handled through WhatsApp. Luggage can be stored in a lockable cellar, and the team responds promptly to guest queries.

Historical Character

The building was constructed in the 18th century and retains original details such as high ceilings and traditional moldings in many units. Located in Edinburgh's New Town - a UNESCO World Heritage district - the guesthouse is surrounded by boutiques, eateries, and parks. Rooms face either the quiet courtyard or the street; courtyard rooms offer a more peaceful stay.

Highlights

Location: 9.5 location score, 600 m from Edinburgh Castle

Rooms: private bathrooms with bathtub in every unit

Family: cots available, family rooms for up to 5 guests

Services: 24-hour security, express check-in via code

Notable: 18th-century townhouse in UNESCO New Town

“This guesthouse, nestled in Edinburgh's New Town, strikes me as a refined base for city exploration; its 18th-century origins lend a distinct ambiance. The self-check-in adds a layer of convenience, and from what I gather, the rooms are well-appointed, balancing modern amenities with historical charm. I think it's a smart pick for travellers who value both location and privacy.”

minor inconveniences

uncomfortable bed limited servicing
the bed in our room was quite uncomfortable. it dipped noticeably in the middle. after i mentioned it, i was told there wasn't a solution available of four nights. i also found the lack of daily servicing a bit disappointing. for the price we paid, i did expect the room to be refreshed each day, but that wasnt the case.
