Hotel Old Quarter - Historic Bar-Hotel in Amsterdam's Red Light District with Canal Views

Located on bustling Warmoesstraat, this 2-star Amsterdam hotel occupies three historic buildings opposite each other. Hotel Old Quarter features a traditional Dutch-style bar that doubles as the registration desk, complete with circular and bench-style booths designed like train carriages, including vintage suitcases in overhead shelves. The property offers rooms ranging from single units to six-bed family accommodations, all equipped with TVs and free WiFi, while select rooms showcase canal views. A restaurant serves guests, and the bar stocks an extensive selection of bottled beers, spirits, and house wines. Three large televisions broadcast live sports in the pub area. The Old Quarter sits just five minutes' walk from Amsterdam Centraal Station, which provides direct 20-minute connections to Schiphol Airport. Dam Square, Nieuwmarkt, and the Waterlooplein flea market are all within five minutes on foot, while direct transport links connect to Rembrandt Square, Leidse Square, and Rijks Museum.

Pros

Historic Dutch bar with train carriage-style seating and vintage decor

Multiple room configurations available, from singles to 6-person family units

Select rooms offer views of Amsterdam's canals

24-hour front desk service

Cons

Some rooms face other buildings rather than street or canal views

Top floor rooms accessible only by stairs

“Hotel Old Quarter's prime location near Amsterdam Centraal station puts guests in the heart of the action. Being steps away from the Red Light District and canal cruises certainly adds to its appeal. While the steep stairs might pose a challenge, the hotel's character and friendly staff make it a worthwhile consideration for a short city break.”

Acceptable Location, Some Issues

ideal locationsmall roomsteep stairs
The location is indeed ideal (I will give them that).
The room I booked was small. It was like a closet. The steep stairs leading to the room were also a problem. Carrying luggage up those narrow steps was dangerous. I was not informed about the steep stairs prior to arrival.
