2-star townhouse above a historic pub on the River Liffey

Accommodation

The Ferryman Townhouse occupies two restored listed Georgian buildings built in the 1780s by Lord Cardiff. Each room is equipped with a TV, hairdryer, and tea/coffee making facilities. Guests can request a Superior King Room with river views overlooking the Samuel Beckett Bridge.

Pub & Bar

The ground floor houses a traditional-style Dublin pub that serves pints of Guinness and its own stout. The pub has retained its old-world charm and attracts a mix of locals and visitors. The hotel does not offer breakfast or any other food on the premises.

Location

Located beside the iconic Samuel Beckett Bridge opposite the Convention Centre, the property overlooks the River Liffey. The Bord Gais Energy Theatre, home to West End hits, is 300 meters from the door. The 3Arena concert venue is across the river, and the airport bus stop is practically outside.

Practical Information

Check-in takes place at the bar downstairs; there is no separate front desk. Access to the rooms is via narrow stairs with no lift, so guests with heavy luggage should plan accordingly. The hotel provides a secure side entrance for after-hours access and offers free bag storage before check-in and after checkout.

Guest Experience

Guests consistently praise the powerful shower pressure and comfortable beds. Despite being above a lively pub, rooms are well soundproofed and quiet after closing time. Staff are noted for going above and beyond, including helping with luggage and accommodating early check-in requests.

Highlights

Location: On River Liffey beside Samuel Beckett Bridge

Rooms: Superior King rooms with river views available

Pub: Traditional pub with own stout and Guinness

Value: Free bag storage and helpful staff

Access: No lift, stairs only

“I noted that the location is advantageous, close to the river, and some rooms have appealing views; inside, the accommodations are neat, well-maintained, and include practical amenities. The soundproofing might not be perfect, especially in rooms above the pub, and there is no lift. Overall, it's a solid base with some trade-offs.”

the location near the river was acceptable.
The room had a musty smell that transferred to my clothes. It was not enjoyable at all. a strong bathroom perfume dispenser in the stairway did not improve the situation. i found no towels in my room upon arrival.
