Nob Hill Hotel - A historic Victorian property with Italian dining and fitness amenities in Downtown San Francisco
Located in the serene Nob Hill district, this restored San Francisco hotel dates back to the early 20th century and features marble flooring, ornate ceilings, and period paintings throughout its interior. The property houses the Colombini Italian Café Bistro, which serves classic Italian dishes and wines from Italy, Spain, France, and Napa Valley. Guest rooms showcase Victorian decor with wall tapestries, chandeliers, and mosaic lamps, while select accommodations include spa baths and English-style garden patios. The hotel maintains a fitness room equipped with free weights, cardio machines, and a flat-screen TV, alongside a 24-hour business center and complimentary WiFi. Safety features include carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and window guards. Situated just two streets from the cable car lines, Nob Hill Hotel provides direct access to North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Embarcadero Center. Grace Cathedral stands 0.5 miles away, while Union Square's shopping district is within 0.5 miles.
Pros
Victorian architectural details preserved throughout the property
On-site Italian restaurant with international wine selection
Comprehensive safety features including 24-hour front desk
Located in a quiet section of downtown, away from main traffic
Cons
Some attractions require cable car or transit use
Limited parking availability in the area
“This hotel has an interesting mix of perks and drawbacks. I noted the complimentary wine tasting events, and the rooftop garden is a definite advantage. However, reports of thin walls and inconsistent service give me some pause.”

The Nob Hill Hotel is appreciated for its central location, a short walk from Union Square, and its proximity to public transportation, making attractions like Fisherman's Wharf easily accessible. Guests often mention the modern and pleasant decor of the rooms and how clean they are, with comfortable beds also being a highlight. While most appreciate the location, some guests have noted the presence of homeless individuals in the immediate vicinity.
The beds were comfy. The family room had two doubles. This room felt spacious and clean. I liked that dressing gowns were provided.
The room was rather small. The strength of the laundry products was off the charts. My husband and I stayed there years ago. It was nothing like it is now.

The staff was helpful, I suppose.
The noise level at night was atrocious. It was far from quiet. The room was quite small, I barely move. I found some hairs in the bathroom, which I didn't love.
