The Lansdowne Hotel - A Traditional Family-Run Dublin Hotel with Rugby Heritage and Victorian Surroundings

Located in affluent Ballsbridge, this 3-star Dublin hotel combines traditional hospitality with sporting heritage. The Lansdowne Hotel, owned by the Quinn family, sits just 0.5 miles from Aviva Stadium and 0.5 miles from Grand Canal. The property features single, twin, double, and triple rooms equipped with flat-screen TVs, cable channels, tea/coffee facilities, and private bathrooms. Druid's Restaurant showcases locally sourced meat, fish, and vegetables amid Celtic moldings and Book of Kells-inspired tapestries. The Den Bar displays the world's largest rugby tie collection and serves carvery lunch, local Guinness, and bar menu items. Major attractions within 1 mile include St Patrick's Cathedral, National Gallery of Ireland, Irish Whiskey Museum, and Dublin Castle. Eight restaurants and bars lie within 0.3 miles, including SEARSONS, Saba, and Bloom Brasserie.

Pros

Victorian-era Swiss shelters and a waterfall with Pulham rock work in the adjacent park

BBQ and al fresco dining available during summer months

Family-run establishment with documented history dating back to 1725

Live Irish music and dance performances in an intimate dinner theatre setting

Cons

Some rooms require ironing boards on request

Limited on-site entertainment options during winter months

“In the Ballsbridge neighborhood, this family-run establishment strikes me as a true taste of Dublin, complete with Celtic decor and a lively Irish music venue; I imagine the Den Bar, with its sports memorabilia, feels like a step back into local history. The location is ideal for Aviva Stadium events, plus the Druid's Restaurant extends hospitality with alfresco dining. It's a comfortable base steeped in genuine Irish culture.”

The Lansdowne Hotel offers a convenient location within walking distance of city center attractions, with bus stops and the Lansdowne DART station nearby for easy access to Dawson Street. Guests appreciate the spacious rooms and comfortable beds, and some rooms even include a separate sitting area. While some guests have noted that the hotel can feel warm, particularly in public areas, the inclusion of tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms is considered a plus. the location was decent. it was close to several bus stops.
the room i had was quite small (felt cramped). the bathroom seemed old. the shower had a fixed head that was hard to adjust, and the breakfast was not excellent. there was little choice, and most of the products were pre-packaged.

the location was acceptable for my needs.
the room felt outdated and not very clean. cobwebs hung from the ceiling in both the room and bathroom, this was disappointing. also, the window faced a wall, so there wasn't a view to speak of.
