Hotel Des Arts - Historic 1733 Canal-Side Hotel with Family Rooms and Amstel River Views

Located in a restored 18th-century monument on Rokin, this 3-star Amsterdam hotel comprises 22 recently renovated rooms across two connected buildings. The front section offers direct views of the Amstel River and Allard Pierson Museum, while the rear building features quieter, more spacious accommodations. Hotel Des Arts provides rooms ranging from singles to five-person family units, with deluxe suites overlooking the Amstel Canal. Each room includes a Nespresso machine, TV, safe, and high-speed WiFi. The 24-hour reception area incorporates a canal-view café-lounge serving beverages and snacks. Pros

Original architectural elements from 1733 preserved throughout the building

24-hour café-lounge overlooking the Amstel Canal

Multilingual staff available around the clock

Dyson hot & cool purifiers in canal-view rooms

Cons

Steep stairs to fourth-floor attic rooms

15.5 miles distance from Schiphol Airport

“What struck me about Hotel Des Arts is its seamless blend of history and modern comfort, notably after its 2023 renovations. Its location is superb-you're genuinely in the heart of Amsterdam, with key attractions easily reachable. I especially appreciate the little luxuries, like Nespresso machines in every room, that elevate the experience.”

I stayed in a room on the fourth floor, accessible only by very steep and narrow stairs. It was quite a climb each time. The room itself felt cramped due to the slanted ceilings, especially in the bathroom. This made moving around somewhat difficult.
