3-star heritage hotel on the Amstel River in central Amsterdam

History & Design

Hotel Des Arts occupies a heritage building dating back to 1733, with a unique lounge area preserving original architectural details. The property underwent extensive renovations completed in 2023, blending old-Dutch touches with updated amenities. Guests find a bar serving cocktails, cold drinks, and snacks, plus a coffee house on site.

Rooms

All guest rooms offer private bathrooms and complimentary Nespresso machines, with some rooms providing canal views over the Amstel River. Family Room with Canal View includes a loft area with three twin beds upstairs and two twin beds downstairs, accommodating up to five guests. Attic Room and Single Room options are available, and rooms situated at the back of the hotel offer quieter surroundings.

Dining

A buffet breakfast with a wide selection is served each morning in the breakfast room, including eggs, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, and fresh bread. The on-site bar offers cocktails, cold drinks, snacks, coffee, and tea throughout the day. Guests can also purchase fruits, wine, and champagne from the bar.

Location

Hotel Des Arts is located within 500 metres of Dam Square, the Royal Palace, and the Flower Market, and around the corner from the Kalverstraat shopping area. Tram stop Spui across the street provides direct access to Amsterdam Central Station, Rijksmuseum, and Anne Frank House, while metro stop Rokin is in front of the hotel. Canal cruises depart 200 metres from the hotel, and Rembrandt Square with its bars and restaurants is within 400 metres.

Services

The hotel offers 24-hour front desk, daily housekeeping, and luggage storage before check-in and after checkout at no charge. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and the shared lounge/TV area provides a space to relax. Multilingual staff are available around the clock, and private check-in/check-out is offered.

“What struck me about Hotel Des Arts is its seamless blend of history and modern comfort, notably after its 2023 renovations. Its location is superb-you're genuinely in the heart of Amsterdam, with key attractions easily reachable. I especially appreciate the little luxuries, like Nespresso machines in every room, that elevate the experience.”

steep stairs cramped room
I stayed in a room on the fourth floor, accessible only by very steep and narrow stairs. It was quite a climb each time. The room itself felt cramped due to the slanted ceilings, especially in the bathroom. This made moving around somewhat difficult.
