The Editory Artist Baixa Porto Hotel - A Creative 5-Star Boutique in a Converted Art School with Fine Dining

Located on Rua de Santa Catarina, this 17-room Porto hotel occupies a converted art school building featuring polished travertine floors and artistic displays including wood-relief carvings and classical portraits. The Editory Artist maintains its creative heritage through the B'Artist bar, decorated with mid-century furnishings, yellow-fabric sofas, and patterned drapes. A Escola by The Artist restaurant serves nightly degustation menus of five, seven, or nine courses, while the breakfast includes made-to-order omelets and marinated salmon. The air-conditioned rooms come equipped with flat-screen cable TVs, minibars, and safety deposit boxes, while suites feature separate living areas with dining tables. A courtyard with red-metal bistro tables hosts live music events during summer months. The Editory sits five minutes' walk from Bolhão metro station, with Mercado do Bolhão 1640.4 ft away and Livraria Lello within 1 mile.

Pros

Young staff demonstrates detailed knowledge of hotel history and features

Restaurant offers unique gastronomic creations by Chef Hugo Dias

Courtyard provides space for summer entertainment and outdoor dining

Building retains early 20th-century architectural elements with modern updates

Cons

Bathroom design includes unconventionally placed central bath showerhead

Limited room count may mean reduced availability during peak seasons

“The Editory Artist Baixa Porto feels quietly tucked away yet sits right on Porto's main artery, offering spacious, modern rooms. What stands out is its novel school-hotel concept-a youthful energy buzzes around the place, especially at A Escola, the student-run restaurant, which is definitely a plus.”

the staff were friendly and helped with everything i needed. they booked taxis and moved my luggage without any hesitation! the breakfast was also fantastic, with lots of options to choose from.
My room had a broken safe and a faulty telephone, so that was not ideal. the bathroom was not well-suited for someone without mobility issues. It seemed designed for wheelchair users. the cupboard also had a bad smell, and that bothered me.
