The Halliburton - A boutique hotel in three heritage townhouses with fine dining and a garden courtyard

Located in Downtown Halifax, this upscale Halifax hotel occupies three restored heritage townhouses. The Halliburton features 29 individually appointed rooms and suites, each equipped with premium bedding, air conditioning, and wireless internet access. Stories Restaurant, specializing in regional cuisine, offers a six-course regional 'blind tasting' experience by Chef Scott Vail and serves fresh seafood alongside thoughtfully curated wine selections. The property includes a hidden garden courtyard, a library, and intimate meeting spaces. A rooftop terrace and common area with coffee and tea service add to the amenities. The Halliburton stands within a 10-minute walk of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Scotiabank Centre, and Public Gardens. The Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk is steps away, while Casino Nova Scotia requires a 2-minute drive.

Pros

Hidden garden courtyard provides a quiet retreat from downtown

Daily cheese boards and charcuterie complement the micro-brew and wine selections

Chef's nightly three-course dinner menu offers regional specialties

Intimate meeting spaces blend comfort with privacy

Cons

All guest rooms require climbing at least one flight of stairs

Parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis

“The Halliburton charms with its historical character and prime location near Halifax's waterfront and attractions; its unique townhouse setting and hidden courtyard stand out. While its layout includes stairs, and some may find the bathrooms compact, I find the regional cuisine and personalized service make it a worthwhile choice for a Halifax stay.”

Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
Guests consistently praise The Halliburton's fantastic location, within easy walking distance of the Halifax harbour, pier, and farmers market. The rooms are generally comfortable and clean, with some featuring a fridge. The breakfast option is appreciated for its generous portions, though some guests have found it requires ordering the night before and is not included in the room rate. A sunny garden view has been a highlight for some, and the free parking and outdoor terrace add to the appeal.

charming inn stay

excellent locationshort walkmany restaurantslimited outlets
the location is excellent. the waterfront is a short walk away. many restaurants are also within easy reach. the complimentary coffee in the lounge was a nice touch..
my room was cold because there was only central heating. i could not adjust the temperature myself. the available outlets were limited and occupied by lamps.
Dining

Service
10/10

some concerns

missing mugscold breakfast
i was somewhat disappointed. the coffee in the room was not replenished properly (mugs were missing, so i could not use the keurig). breakfast arrived without cutlery, the scone and bagel became cold as a result. contacting the front desk was difficult, often requiring a walk to reception in another building (this was not ideal).

the hotel's proximity to the waterfront and downtown was awesome , i walked everywhere. the staff was super friendly and helpful with my luggage up to the third floor. the room was clean and the bed was really comfy.
the hotel is spread across three separate buildings and the entrance hall to my room had a musty smell. it was a bit concerning , and i hope they can address this to improve the guest experience.

the location was acceptable. it allowed easy access to the waterfront.
The room lacked individual climate control. the central heating system left me cold. there were also very few accessible outlets. They were taken up by lamps.

really good breakfastsmall roomsticking door
The breakfast offered was really good I appreciated the variety.
The room was quite small the furniture seemed too large. Access to one side of the bed was limited no bedside cabinet was available on that side. The bathroom door needed maintenance it stuck and was difficult to open or close. I found the overall experience a bit disappointing given the price.

decent Location, outdated Room

fantastic locationoutdated room
The location was fantastic. I could easily walk all over downtown from there.
The room needed updating BADLY. The bed felt old. The decor resembled my grandma's, untouched for 50 years. Plugs were inconvenient.
