World's first capsule hotel from 1979 with three levels of spa and sauna facilities
Amenities & Spa
Capsule Inn Osaka has three levels of spa, including baths and saunas at different temperatures, plus a swimming pool. The third level is an open-air area with a Finnish sauna, a barrel of cold water, and two hot tubs made of Japanese cypress wood. Additional spa services include body scrub, facial treatments, full body massage, a hammam, and a steam room.
Rooms & Sleeping Capsules
Sleeping capsules are placed side-by-side in a common area, each with a privacy blind, an alarm clock, a TV, and a modular fan and light system. Depending on the capsule model, there is also a USB port. Private bathrooms and toilets are shared, with free toiletries and shared-use hairdryers.
Location
The hotel is 700 meters from Umeda Subway Station and 350 meters from the HEP Five shopping and entertainment center. A 7-minute walk from Higashi Umeda Subway Station, the property is 1 km from JR Osaka Train Station and Hankyu Umeda Train Station. The Umeda Sky Building is 1.3 km away.
Dining
A fine restaurant is located on site, serving a Japanese/Western breakfast for a fee. Depending on the capsule type, a free breakfast menu is available at the restaurant. The restaurant is open to guests and offers evening meals as well.
Wellness & Relaxation
The spa includes a hot spring bath, an indoor swimming pool, and a sauna, all accessible 24/7. Guests can use the fitness/spa locker rooms, a spa lounge and relaxation area, and attend yoga classes. Additional treatments include light therapy, hot tub/jacuzzi, and body treatments like foot massage and hair treatments.
Highlights
Spa: Three levels with Finnish sauna and cypress wood hot tubs
History: First capsule hotel in the world, designed by Kisho Kurokawa
Location: 350 m from HEP Five, 700 m from Umeda Station
Rooms: Capsules with privacy blind, TV, and USB port
Wellness: Open-air cold water barrel and massage services
Dining: On-site restaurant with Japanese/Western breakfast
“What this capsule hotel might lack in modernity, it more than makes up for with its prime location near the subway, shops, and restaurants. I found the spa facilities particularly impressive, encompassing baths, saunas, and even an open-air onsen. For travellers prioritizing convenience and relaxation, it presents a compelling option.”
